Mistakes costly in rivalry match

The UNM volleyball team lost 3-0 to rival NMSU on Monday night.

The loss drops the Lobos to 4-7, while NMSU improves to 11-0.

Freshman Anna Lehne led UNM with 11 kills in the match, while sophomore Gayle Tripp had a team-high 12 digs.

Amber Simpson led the Aggies in the match with 10 kills, while Jordan Bostic recorded a team-high 13 digs.

In the first game, Lehne put the Lobos in striking distance with six kills on 14 attacks and three blocks to produce eight points for the team.

In the end, errors prevented UNM from winning the match. The teams were even, with 16 kills, 14 assists and six blocks apiece.

The Aggies jumped out to an 18-8 lead in the second game following nine errors from the Lobos.

Freshman Rose Morris put down two kills, and junior Tanna Taylor hit an ace to shave the Aggie lead to five at 21-16. More errors at the end of the game gave NMSU three of its last four points.

The Aggies jumped out to an 11-3 lead in game three. Mistakes once again put the Lobos behind 19-6, as they committed six errors in a row. Lehne slammed down two kills late in the game, but the Aggies went on a 4-0 run to end the match.
