Men's Golf

The UNM men's golf team crushed the competition in the 52nd William H. Tucker Invitational, taking the individual and team titles.

Charlie Beljan took the singles title and contributed to the team's 10-over par score.

The Lobos won its ninth Tucker championship by slipping past BYU by one stroke and Pepperdine by three.

Beljan won the individual title by birdying his final hole with a 12-foot putt to take a one stroke victory over UNLV's Jarred Baxter.

Other contributors included sophomore Steve Saunders, who tied for 14th at 4-over par; junior Robb Bierbaum tied for 31st at 8-over par; sophomore Nick Geyer tied for 54th at 11-over par; and freshman Brandon Putnam tied for 66th at 13-over par.

Volleyball

The Lobo volleyball team ended its four-game losing streak and got its first Mountain West Conference win against Air Force on Saturday.

In the first game, the Lobos went on a 9-2 run after being up by just one point. Air Force came back within three, before the Lobos finished the game on a 4-0 run with help from freshman Anna Lehne, who got a kill and block.

Air Force came out strong in the second, causing 12 ties and 12 lead changes. The game was in Air Force's hands with a 27-24 lead over UNM, before the Lobos went on another run for 5-straight points. A UNM error gave Air Force a chance to come back, but freshman Allison Suiter got a kill and pushed the team to a 30-28 win.

The Lobos came into game three playing good defense. They also went on several runs, including a 4-0, two 5-0 and one 7-0 to win the game, 30-18.

Sophomore Jeanne Fairchild got a team-high of 10 kills, and freshman Rose Morris and Suiter chipped in with nine each. Kelly Therkelsen returned to action for the first time since spraining her ankle and recorded six kills. Sophomore Sarah Kwasigroch gave out a team-high 33 assists, while Gayle Tripp got a team-high 17 digs.

Women's Tennis

The New Mexico State Invitational ended on Sunday with the Lobos coming out on top by winning four of the single flights, including the double A flight and the consolation rounds.

Flights A, B, D and E were all taken by UNM. Iva Gersic won flight A with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 victory. UNM's Mackenzie White beat Stacey Pincheck 6-3, 6-3 in the D flight. Jennifer Ryba took out Zuzanna Osinka 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Lucy Scott took third in flight F.

In doubles, Gersic, ranked No. 31, and Scott took an 8-4 victory in the final round against Yawna Allen and Nataliya Shatkovskaya.
