Lobos snatch first road win

The No. 23-ranked UNM women's basketball team increased its winning streak to five games and earned its first road victory of the season Tuesday against Arizona.

The Lobos beat the Wildcats 76-63 in Tucson, Ariz., thanks in part to accurate 3-point shooting.

UNM went 9-of-16 from 3-point range. Meanwhile, the Wildcats were just 2-of-16 in 3-point shooting.

Senior guard Katie Montgomery led the Lobos in that category, connecting on 4-of-7 3-point attempts. She finished with 18 points overall on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.

UNM senior Julie Briody scored a game-high 25 points and was perfect from the free-throw line, going 6-of-6.

Lobo sophomore post Angela Hartill also scored in double figures, finishing with 12 points. Junior guard Brandi Kimble led the Lobos with eight rebounds and chipped in four points.

Kimble, Montgomery and junior Dionne Marsh dished out four assists apiece for UNM.

The Wildcats had four players in double figures. Suzie Bofia led Arizona with 14 points. Amina Njonkou added 13 points, and Ashley Whisonant finished with 12. Shannon Hobson chipped in with 10.

With the win, UNM improved to 6-2, while Arizona fell to 5-4.
