Global warming a result of Earth's natural cycle

Editor,

It seems to me that global warming is a government conspiracy for several plausible reasons. First of all, Earth, much like a living organism, has natural cycles that it must go through. According to a recent "Naked Science" documentary that aired on the National Geographic channel, the gravitational forces between Earth and the moon are slowly growing weaker. As our moon spins farther and farther away, Earth moves closer to the sun as it spins on its axis. In the distant future, these physical forces might become so weak that the moon will just spin completely outside of Earth's gravitational field. If that ever happens, it will spell catastrophe for our blue planet.

By no means am I denying the fact that human activity does have a significant impact on Earth's environment, but we are not entirely to blame for global warming. From an engineering standpoint, global warming does not make any sense. Forty years ago, vehicles were designed to be much heavier and consume much more gasoline than they do now. Even though there are many more humans inhabiting this planet right now than in the past, modern vehicles are much lighter and more fuel-efficient. If global warming were actually happening, then all the automakers in the world would be forced to make vehicles with a fuel economy of 100 miles per gallon or more. Also, all the oil companies would be forced to compromise earning a big profit in order to save the environment.

As an engineering student, designing environmentally friendly vehicles will be one of my biggest challenges in the future. Some renewable, alternative fuel sources that engineers have found are ethanol, hydrolyzed water, wind energy and solar energy. In order to reduce our environmental impact, vehicles of the future must run on some of these sources of energy.
