Liberals are too quick to attack intelligent design

Editor,

It seems Dennis Kinzler's letter published in the Daily Lobo on Sept. 17 has ignited yet another ideological struggle between liberals and conservatives on campus. In less than one semester, Daily Lobo readers have been forced to endure fruitless conjecture on the subjects of homosexuality, abortion, the Roman Catholic Studies program and now evolution. We have been blessed with reading Kinzler's arguments against evolution in addition to the condescending responses from the liberal faction.

It is thoroughly disappointing that the enlightened leftists are so quick to deconstruct intelligent design without maintaining an equally skeptic attitude toward their own platform. Liberals declare vehemently that even entertaining the idea of intelligent design will cause irreparable harm to young minds, while at the same time ignoring all of the politically correct nonsense that is being taught in lower-division sociology and women's studies courses. If we must be told God had absolutely nothing to do with mankind's creation, would it not be equally proper to critically examine the notion that men have deliberately engaged in a global conspiracy to strip women of their rights or that the white race is the sole perpetrator of racism?
