Editor,
On Tuesday, Christie Abeyta wrote a letter in the Daily Lobo addressing hunger, and her class put on an event regarding this on Wednesday. Now the event is finished, and people want to know what involvement opportunities there are.
Fortunately, I know of an organization right here on campus - Hunger and Homelessness. Right now, a little under half of the population in New Mexico is eligible for free money for food from the government but do not receive it, because they have not taken the time to apply for food stamps.
Every Monday and Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m., we help people fill out these complicated food stamp program applications, so students and people can receive the help rightfully due to them.
Hunger and Homelessness' program is running this service from its office in the bottom floor of the SUB, Room 1065.
Wednesday's event aided in raising awareness about hunger. So many people are deprived of nutrition, and no one needs to go hungry. If you would like to fill out a form or need help in the effort to fight hunger, stop by our office.
