Soccer may see record crowd

Staff Report

When the UNM men's soccer team takes on UNLV this weekend, it may have the largest crowd in program history supporting it.

The Lobos will play in University Stadium on Saturday, just a couple of hours after the USA Women's National Team plays against Mexico at the stadium.

Fans who buy tickets to the USA-Mexico game receive free admission to the UNM men's soccer game.

UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein said playing after the USA team can generate more fans for the Lobos.

"It's going to be great to see our women's national team out here," he said. "I think it's going to be a good environment for us. And any time you can play at home in front of a big crowd, it's a good thing."

The men's soccer team is on a roll. After starting 1-2-0, the Lobos have improved to 8-3-1, including a three-game winning streak.

Their foes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, the Rebels, are 5-6-2 on the season.

Fishbein said he's proud of the team's performance, but they need to focus to succeed.

"I'm real happy," he said. "We're starting to score goals, and we're playing like a mature team. We've just been real disciplined. The guys are great right now."
