After the best conference finish the UNM cross country team has seen in 19 years, the Lobos will try and build upon that in the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships.
At the Mountain West Conference Championships in Albuquerque, senior Jeremy Johnson made his last hometown race a memorable one. He dominated the whole race, finishing first, while five other Lobo runners finished in the top 20 to help the team place second.
Later on that day, Michelle Corrigan finished fifth to lead the women to a third-place finish.
New Mexico placed its men's and women's teams in the top three for the first time since 1988, when the men won the Western Athletic Conference title, and the women placed third.
The Lobos will travel to Ogden, Utah, and face possibly the best region in the country. Nine teams are ranked nationally among the men and women in the field.

The team will again be led by Johnson, who placed 33rd in last year's regionals despite having
the flu.
Johnson said he is excited about the regional meet and has high goals for him and the Lobos.
"The atmosphere is going to be wonderful up there," Johnson said. "We just want to go up there, beat as many people as we can and make it to the national meet."
Football
The UNM football team looks to improve its chances at a bowl bid Saturday when it hosts Colorado State.
The Lobos are 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the Mountain West Conference. UNM became bowl-eligible after defeating Air Force on Oct. 25 but had a 37-0 setback last week at TCU. The Lobos are the only MWC team to be bowl eligible for the past seven seasons straight.
This year, Colorado State is 1-8 on the season and 1-5 in conference play. The Lobos have won three of the last four contests against the Rams, including a 20-19 comeback win last year in Fort Collins, Colo.
