Environmentally interested invited to Earth Day events

Editor,

The flowers are out, the sun is shining, and Earth Day is around the corner Tuesday.

It comes this year on the heels of President David Schmidly's announcement of UNM policy proposal 2100 for sustainability.

The policy calls for UNM students to take an active role in making our campus environmentally friendly.

As UNM students of a climate change class here on campus and as human beings who enjoy living on the planet, we accept the challenge. This Earth Day, we are going to make a difference. We invite the UNM community to join us in the first annual climate crossroads discussion.

The event will be a new kind of discourse that allows each participant to bring his or her personal ideas and passions to the discussion.

Everyone with environmental interests is welcome to attend. Many leaders of our UNM environmental movement have been invited, including Schmidly.

Discuss the environmental issues that matter to you, enjoy healthy organic food and meet others from the UNM community who share these passions.

Climate Crossroads will be held Tuesday from 4:30-6 p.m. at the University Honors Forum underneath the Student Health Center. RSVP to Ecolobos@gmail.com.

Can't make it to the event? PIRG is hosting a celebration outside the SUB, and check the UNM calendar for a list of all events that day.

Earth Day is about each of us and our future on the planet. As part of the UNM community, we have a great deal of power to make a difference for New Mexico and the planet, and every one of us has the power to contribute.
