The UNM women's golf team got off to a great start at the Mountain West Conference Championships on Thursday, taking a first-round lead.
The Lobos took a nine-shot lead at 6-under par at the UNM Championship Golf Course.
Sophomore Jodi Ewart is the overall leader, shooting a 1-under 72.
Ewart was tied with UNLV's Therese Koelbaek near the end of the first round, but she birdied the final hole to take the lead.
UNM has four players in the top seven after Thursday's round. Britney Choy is tied for third at 1-over. Mikaela Backstedt and Morgan Grantham are tied for sixth at 3-over.
