Staff Report
In his first 10,000-meter race of the season, Jeremy Johnson secured his spot at the 2008 NCAA Track and Field Championships.
Johnson hit an automatic qualifying time of 28:33.08 late Sunday at Stanford's Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational.
He was named Mountain West Conference Track Athlete of the Week on Monday, along with Colorado State's Drew Morano.
Johnson, a senior two-time All-American, was granted an extra season of eligibility after he petitioned the NCAA in the fall due to medical hardship. His appeal was granted earlier this season, but Johnson didn't make his 2008 debut until April 26, when he ran the fastest 5,000 in the MWC this season at 13:51.84.
His 10,000-meter time ranks third on the all-time MWC list behind Josh Rohatinsky of BYU and former Lobo Matt Gonzales.
