UNM catcher lands fourth national honor

Staff Report

UNM catcher Rafael Neda was named to Baseball America's Second Team on June 30.

The announcement brings Neda's major honor running total to four.

At the end of the season, Neda garnered an honor from the Pro-Line Athletic/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, who named Neda to its Division I Freshman All-America First Team.

Neda was also honored by being selected for the Ping!Baseball All-Freshman Second Team as well as the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team as selected by Collegiate Baseball.

Neda was an All-MWC Second Team honoree as well.

In his first season with the Lobos, Neda batted .323 for the season, knocking out six home runs and racking up 45 RBI's. He led all MWC freshmen in RBI's and doubles.

Neda is only the fourth Lobo since 2002 to earn Freshman All-America honors. He joins an elite list of former Lobos, including Travis Young, Lon Yamaguchi, Matt Young, Daniel Stovall and most recently Jordan Pacheco in 2005, to be named Freshmen All-Americans.

Currently, Neda is playing summer ball for the Hays Larks of the Jayhawk League.
