Editor,
It's a shame we have to read nonsense in the Daily Lobo letters like "Even for faithful Democrats, Obama is the wrong choice" on Monday. That is as silly as the lies being spread in e-mails written by right-wing smear merchants about Sen. Barack Obama. If Daniel Martinez had simply taken the time to visit one of the many fact-checking sites on the Internet, he could have seen a copy of Obama's birth certificate instead of spreading more wrong information.
Obama was born in Hawaii in 1962. His birth certificate has been checked by reliable sources, and it's authentic. There's even an archived birth announcement from a Hawaiian newspaper published to provide backup. Martinez, you can visit FactCheck.org or PolitiFact.com - that is, if you're not limited to getting your information from the conspiracy Web sites.
For more solid, fact-based info, we have "Obama is a liar, a misogynist and racist. He wouldn't know the truth if it slapped him in the face." And just how do you know these things, Martinez - from someone who sent you an e-mail perhaps? If I were going to make such claims, I'd back them up with more than the tired, innuendo-filled screed you provided to the Daily Lobo.
I know the letters column is a venue for the expression of opinion, but when letter writers are this devoid of any facts to lend credence to those opinions I'd hope that the Lobo would exercise some discretion.
