Editor,
Two letters in Wednesday's Daily Lobo talk about good-for-America presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama and why the middle class needs him, and a brief reference to the Constitution was tossed in without talking about what the Constitution does to protect all of us.
The Constitution and the Federalist Papers do not allow the government to take my income and give it to another, regardless of that person's situation. Martin Luther King Jr. described the authors of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence as "signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir." Those notes tell us the "right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" is an "unalienable right" that comes from God.
Nowhere does God or the founders of this nation tell us the president has a right to pick winners and losers, something that Obama and today's writers want to happen by raising the tax rate on "rich" people and making them pay a disproportionate share of taxes. The "pursuit of happiness" does not mean pursuing my wallet; it means go after it yourself, work hard and become successful. Celestino Caballero states Obama "has been more of an example of a patriotic American than most." To decide how much of a patriot he really is, I look at a few statements he's made: "We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objective we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that is just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded (as the military)."
What are his national security objectives? Why do we need a 2.5 million-man security force that answers to the president? Obama and Joe Biden have sponsored legislation to allow the United Nations to tax us. Why should the U.N., whose officials do not answer to the American people, be allowed to tax us? Obama stated the Second Amendment does not allow us to own guns, and, in a recent speech, he has outlined his plan to deny the American people gun ownership.
The Bill of Rights are individual rights, not government rights. He wants our tax dollars to pay for the health care of illegal immigrants. Why should we be the doctor's office for other nations? Caballero states "Obama knows the economy." Obama has never had a private sector job, and he has never written a paycheck. Where did he learn about the economy? He has promised to raise taxes and spending by about $1 trillion while cutting taxes for those who pay a very small percent of income taxes. Where will the tax money come from?

In foreign relations, Obama has no experience. His two-week trip to Europe exposed him to 200,000 people who came for the beer and band festival that preceded his speech in Berlin. He has made statements that show his lack of understanding of the Grand Canyon-size differences between the nations of the Middle East and the expansionist agenda of Russia and China.
How do you know "Obama is a liar . a racist"? asks Steiner. In his book, Obama talked about what a wonderful, loving person his grandmother was, and he repeats this in recent TV spots. In the famous Philadelphia speech he told us she made many racially insensitive comments that caused him great pain. Which is the truth? Obama has called people liars who talk about his opposition to the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. He claims he supported health care, not death in a soiled linen closet, for babies born alive after a failed abortion. But the words he spoke on the record in the Illinois Legislature clearly show he did not want any protection for those babies. He lied when he called those who reported the truth of his callous disregard for these babies "liars."
Each statement I have made is supported by the legislative record, videos of his speeches and the copies provided to the press, and his book. Aldous Huxley observed, "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored." History has provided an ample number of lessons of what happens when people ignore facts and follow the messiah. Obama has told us whom he is and what he stands for. Patrick Henry told us about the "chains of slavery." Despots always tell the people they are their only salvation and promise to take away their liberty and means of keeping it.
