Lobos pull out win after getting off to a slow start

Staff Report

After starting off slowly, the UNM women's soccer team came around to beat Drake 1-0 on Friday at the UNM Soccer Complex.

UNM head coach Kit Vela told GoLobos.com her team was a bit lackadaisical at the onset.

"We were lethargic in the first half," she said. "It was almost like we strutted out onto the field like we owned the world without doing anything. We kind of lit into them at the half."

However, the Lobos eventually responded, going ahead for good in the 71st minute after Nicole Reed took a Jael Fanning cross and put it in the back of the net.

"I got the ball from Jael, right in front, and I just wanted to put something on it," Reed told GoLobos.com. "I wasn't looking at a spot (in the net). I just wanted to get a touch on it."
