Editor,
I am reminded of the quote from the great coach Vince Lombardi in reference to the latest happenings on UNM: "What the hell is going on out there?"
The scheme to move Student Services to South Campus is another example of placing the needs of students behind the needs of the administration.
Placing Student Services on South Campus does not serve the needs of students in the following ways. South Campus is more accessible for CNM students. South Campus is inaccessible for disabled students. South Campus is too remote for students without transportation.
The current location is convenient for all UNM students and staff to visit. As a geographer trained at UNM, moving Student Services does not make any sense. One of the key concepts in geography is location. The prime location for customer service operations is one that is most convenient for the customer.
I can't help but wonder what the logic behind the move is. I also wonder who came up with this hair-brained idea. Was it the vice president of Nothing Better To Do, the vice president of Too Much Time On My Hands, or the vice president of Irrelevant Matters?

What is the goal of moving Student Services? Is it to reduce use of Student Services by students, therefore reducing the workload of employees? The administration is out of touch with the needs of the primary reason for the existence of UNM: the students. If the administration wants to move something to South Campus, why not the adobe tower administration building?
