Obama must stand firm to address America's challenges

Editor,

I was extremely disappointed at John McCain's and Sarah Palin's epic-scale loss on Tuesday, because I voted for them and wanted them to win this presidential election, and I believe they represent my basic moral values better than the Democrats.

Joe Biden recently said that it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama and that there would be an international crisis to test the "mettle of this guy." Already, Russia is threatening to jam our U.S. missile shield in Poland. For America's sake, I truly hope Obama has that "metal in his spine" Biden said he would need to fulfill all of the responsibilities he will face as the 44th American president. Obama will need to "speak softly and carry a big stick." He will need to be very stern and authoritative with our enemies but gentle and friendly with our allies.

Obama lacks military and foreign policy experience, so he will need all the advice and expertise he can possibly get from all members of his Cabinet. He will need to listen carefully and act upon all of the advice from the joint chiefs of staff, his U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, his vice president, Biden, and his secretary of state to conduct all foreign policy affairs in the best interests of the American people.

As the 44th president of the United States, Obama will face many incredibly daunting challenges. He will face a federal budget deficit of $482 billion, a national debt of about $10 trillion, a devastated economy, a hostile world inhabited by people whose only intention is to hurt and destroy America and a sour relationship with Russia.

If Obama can successfully resolve these problems by the end of his first presidential term in 2012, then I will gladly admit I was wrong in having voted for the Republicans. I love my country, so may God truly continue to bless, protect and prosper America so that it will continue to be the ultimate beacon of freedom and hope in this sad, crazy world of ours.
