Government has no business bailing out the auto industry

Editor,

I and everyone in America who has any appreciation or understanding of what this great country was founded on - freedom - should be very concerned to see the U.S. government continuing to talk about yet another bailout of private industry.

Government has no business having any type of ownership stake of any industry or corporation, and going farther down this road is asking for an economic disaster beyond belief. Previous presidents and Congress have been spending this country into oblivion well before the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac crisis came to light, and now most of our leaders, including President Barack Obama, want to spend billions of dollars more on bailing out the U.S. auto industry that loses $1,500 to $2,000 on every vehicle made when compared to foreign auto companies. This is money our government doesn't even have. Yes, the U.S. Treasury can print more money, but rest assured this will lead to terrible inflation that will hurt everyone in America.

To add insult to injury, Obama wants to spend a mind boggling $1 trillion on a "stimulus" package that, of course, the already overburdened tax payers will somehow have to pay. Children born today are starting life having to dig themselves out of a hole before they can even walk or talk. That is horribly unfair and absolutely unconstitutional. America didn't get to where it is today, the richest and most powerful country the world has ever known, by being socialist or communist.

Our nation's founding fathers, who despised a huge, overbearing federal government, have got to be turning over in their graves due to what is going on in our country. Yet, that is where we are headed so fast it is scary. Rahm Emanuel, Obama's chief of staff, practically said it outright last month at the Wall Street Journal's CEO Council when he said, "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. What I mean by that is it's an opportunity to do things that you could not do before." Translation: Socialism, here we come.

Many government officials are going to try to scare the country into thinking that the overall economic situation in the U.S. is so bad that without immediate government control of private industry, including the health care, energy and education industries, we face dire consequences. When Obama said during the campaign that change was coming, maybe that is what he meant. Get ready for the end of capitalism and prepare for socialism. Citizens who love freedom cannot allow this to happen. Otherwise, our great country will implode just like the Soviet Union did.
