Football

On Aug. 9, the New Mexico football team announced that sophomore cornerbacks Rashad and Vershad Jackson will not return to the team.

“Rashad and Vershad Jackson will no longer be a part of our football program,” Davie said in a news release. “We wish them well moving forward in their future endeavors.”

Vershad Jackson was suspended Wednesday after refusing to re-enter practice in Ruidoso, in support of his brother who was banned from the practice field by head coach Bob Davie for poor performance.
The Jacksons sparingly played in about half of the team’s games last season.

Lobo Fan Football Day

Starting Friday at noon, the team will hold Lobo Fan Football Day at University Stadium.

The Howl Zone in the north end of the Stadium West parking lot will be open and will include free face painting and a bounce house while the Lobos scrimmage inside the stadium.

After the scrimmage, fans will be able to interact with players and coaches.

Softball

The New Mexico softball team will hold tryouts for walk-on players for the 2013-14 team at 3 p.m. on Aug. 20 at Lobo Field.

The tryout is open to all female students enrolled full-time for the fall 2013 semester. Each student must have a copy of her medical insurance card, a copy of her fall 2013 class schedule at UNM and a signed 2013 Lobo Softball Tryout Liability Waiver.
