Volleyball

Junior right side hitter Chantale Riddle earned Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honors for the New Mexico volleyball team.

This is the second MWC POW honors for Riddle in her career and her first this season.

In nine sets of action last week, Riddle had 25 kills, 17 digs and 10 blocks.

The Lobos sit at 17-4, 7-3 MWC. UNM travels to UNLV this Thursday.

Swimming & Diving

The New Mexico swimming and diving team lost its opening meet of the season at Northern Arizona this past weekend.

The Lobos won six of the 16 events but lost 166.5 points, compared to the Lumberjacks’ 131.5.

UNM took the 200-meter relay with the combination of Kaela McKee, Ashley Blanchette, Jorgi Hobson and Fanni Pataki finishing in 1:57.63.

McKee also won the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke with times of 1:02.80 and 2:19.93, respectively.

Fanni Pataki took first in the 50-meter freestyle for UNM, clocking in at 26.72. She also won the 100-meter free in 58.96.

In the final event, the Lobos won the 400-meter free relay with a time of 3:57.94.

Senior diver Megan Harper took second in the 1-meter board (292.72) and third in the 3-meter board (243.30).

Cross Country

In the Mountain West Conference pre-championship polls, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams were selected as the favorites to win the MWC.

The UNM men took the poll with 47 points followed by Colorado State (42), Boise State (36), Air Force (34), Wyoming (22), Utah State (21), Fresno State (14) and San Jose State (8).

The Lobo women had 99 points to secure the poll. Boise State finished second with 89 points, Air Force was third with 81, CSU was voted fourth with 62 points and USU had 61 points.

The women have won five-straight MWC championships, while the men have won four-straight championships.

Air Force will host the MWC championship meet this Friday. The men’s portion starts at 10 a.m. MT and the women begin at 10:45 a.m. The course is 8 kilometers long for the men and 6 kilometers long for the women.
