Cross Country
For the fifth straight year, the New Mexico men’s and women’s cross country teams took the Mountain West Conference championships on Friday. It was the sixth-straight victory for the women.
The men beat Colorado State 32-51, while the women won over Boise State 31-60, with the lower scores winning.
Senior Luke Caldwell placed second with a time of 24:12.40 on the eight-kilometer course. He was named First-Team All-Mountain West for the championships. Adam Bitchell (24:16.99) and Pat Zacharias (24:26.07), finished third and fourth, respectively.
Sammy Silva took second for the women, clocking in at 21:12.10 on the six-kilometer course. Charlotte Arter placed fourth with a time of 21:30.95, while Nicole Roberts finished seventh in 21:52.07.
Head coach Joe Franklin was named the MWC Head Coach of the Year for both the men’s and women’s teams. It’s his sixth-straight honor for the women and his third-straight for the men.
The NCAA Championships begin on Nov. 15 in Ogden, Utah.
Men’s Soccer
It didn’t take long for the UNM men’s soccer team to regain its place on top of the Conference USA standings.
The Lobos (10-4-2, 6-1-1 C-USA) defeated conference leader Old Dominion 3-0 to take a one-point lead in the C-USA standings over the No. 24 Monarchs. UNM has 19 points in the standings.
James Rogers, Christopher Wehan and Michael Calderon all scored for UNM. Goalkeeper Michael Lisch had a career-high seven saves and recorded his seventh shutout of the season.
Rogers’ goal came in the 18th minute, and Wehan’s happened right before the end of the first half after he forced a turnover. Both Rogers’ and Wehan’s goals were unassisted. The final goal of the game happened after Calderon converted a penalty kick in the 81st minute.
The Monarchs (9-4-2, 6-2-0 C-USA) outshot the Lobos 20-15 and had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Swimming & Diving
The New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team defeated the University of Northern Colorado 196.50 points to 101.50 in its first home meet of the season Thursday.
Kaela McKee helped the Lobos with three victories in the 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard IM. McKee, along with Fanni Pataki, Ashley Blanchette and Jorgi Hobson, took the 200-yard medley relay in 1:46.21.
Caitlin Gardiner placed first in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:55.39. Monica Dudley also won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:28.70.
The meet was diver Megan Harper’s only home meet of the season, as she will be competing in separate invitational meets while UNM competes at home. She took first in both the 1-meter springboard (284.25) and the 3-meter board (275.33).
