Individuals in possession of drugs steal bikes on main campus

On Oct. 18 a report was filed with UNMPD concerning two individuals stealing bikes around UNM dorms on main campus. According to the report, a UNMPD officer investigated the area and noticed the offenders “fidgeting” with a bike on a bike rack.

They began to walk away when they noticed the officer approaching, and when the officer told them to stop, they did so and the officer began questioning them. The individuals were in possession of a bike and bike tire. When told by the officer that UNMPD had received a call about bike theft, one of the offenders “immediately responded by stating the bike didn’t have a lock on it.”

The individuals were taken into custody, and upon search of their persons, they were discovered to be in possession of various drug paraphernalia, including needles and methamphetamine.

Battery at Children’s Psychiatric Center

On the evening of Oct. 29 UNMPD was dispatched to the Children’s Psychiatric Center in response to a reported battery. According to police reports, the perpetrator entered the 11-year-old victim’s room and began “hitting her repeatedly.”

The incident resulted in slight swelling where the victim was hit, but no other marks were seen at the time. UNMPD then contacted the fathers of the offender and the victim. The victim’s father decided not to press charges, according to the reports, effectively closing the case.

Items taken from car parked at golf course

On Saturday afternoon UNMPD was dispatched to the UNM Championship Golf Course in response to alerts of theft from a car. According to police reports, the victim, a German citizen, parked at the golf course around 12:30 in the afternoon.

When he returned three hours later, he found his rear passenger window broken and several items missing, including passports and travel visas. Other stolen items included iPads and clothing. The estimated total value of the stolen items is $26,000, according to the report.

UNMPD alerted APD in regards to the stolen identification, and is also in the process of requesting camera footage. There was no information on the offender at the time the report was filed.
