25th annual Research Days hosted by Biology Department
According to a UNM press release, the Biology Department will host its 25th annual Research Day and Open House on Thursday and Friday.
The annual event is a showcase for student research, celebrating discovery and education in the biological sciences, according to the release.
On Thursday, student posters will be on display for a judges' preview in the hallways of Castetter Hall, according to the release.
Thursday afternoon events include a lecture titled, The Role of Historic Ecology in Establishing Baselines for Conservation: A few Case Examples from the North Pacific Ocean, presented by UNM Department of Biology Assistant Professor Seth Newsome, according to the release.
The lecture will run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in room 100 of Castetter Hall, and afterwards there will be an open house in the Museum of Southwestern Biology (CERIA, Bldg. 83) from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
On Friday students will present posters and oral presentations from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and again from 1 p.m. to 3:15 pm, according to the release. The keynote speaker is Kevin Lafferty, senior ecologist at the University of California.
Lafferty’s talk, titled Parasites and Food Webs , will be held in Northup Hall, room 122 from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m., according to the release.
A reception, silent auction and awards presentation will be held afterward at 5 p.m. at the University Club located at 1923 Las Lomas Rd.
