The Global Education Office is bringing together different cultures during the 2016 International Festival on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Cornell Mall, according to a UNM press release.
There will be more than 30 booths with food, crafts and information available during the free event, according to the release.
“The International Festival is a fun and visible way for the entire UNM community to celebrate our connections to the rest of the world,” Pablo Torres, director of international admissions and festival co-chair, is quoted as saying in the release. “Our international students come to UNM from 100 countries, making our campus truly global.”
The Festival will also feature flamenco and tango dance performances, Japanese drum “Taiko” and music from Kenya, the release states.
"The International Festival is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all the rich cultures we have at UNM. I am especially excited for this year's festival as my friends and I will be baking pastries and representing Cuba," Jennifer Zafra, a junior international studies major, said in the release.
The International Festival is a celebration of culture and diversity, occuring annually during the Spring semester, according to the release.
The countries represented at this year’s festival include: Australia, Bangladesh, Cuba, Ecuador, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Madagascar, Mexico, Nigeria, Philippines, Sierra Leone, Thailand, Turkey and more, according to the release.
