Letter: Why is violence, but not sex, acceptable entertainment?

Editor,

Why are movies about passionate romance between Romeo and Juliet or Judy and Juliet or Romeo and Roger, with scenes of affectionate naked lovemaking, NOT considered family entertainment? Imagine a world where watching affectionate naked lovemaking is family entertainment for all ages.

Why are movies loaded with glamorized war, robbery, murder, revenge, rape, booze and greed watched as family entertainment? Imagine a world where all adults would refuse to watch such movies.

Why are violent movies called action movies? Why are videos of sex no matter how affectionate and romantic labeled dirty?

Is brutal boxing of man against man or woman against woman as they bruise, bloody and brain injure each other family entertainment? Why would any adult watch and cheer for such evil crap?

Why would many parents prefer their adult son be a boxer harming other men or a solder killing men in war than for him to be in love and make love with men?

We have much to learn about sexual freedom from our bonobo cousins and from many other human cultures worldwide.

I highly recommend the 2010 book and New York Times bestseller “Sex At Dawn- The Prehistoric Origins of Modern Sexuality” by Christopher Ryan and Cacilda Jethá. A controversial book, it strongly challenges what we are taught about sex, marriage, monogamy, family and society! Full of passion, human and wisdom!
