Editor,
It's clear that the UNM seal has got to go. How and when that happens is still uncertain. I hope, however, that it is not too early to suggest a replacement.
I picture the image of a lactating she-wolf (Loba) struggling to free herself from a leg trap. This image would be centered on a silver shield festooned with oil wells, propane flares and Stealth Bombers - all in UNM Cherry. This seal would communicate many layers of meaning and draws powerfully on both the past and present of the great state of New Mexico. It would be a very fitting and appropriate symbol for UNM, New Mexico's flagship university.
