It’s that time of year again. Winter turns to spring — and back into winter again. The sun shines, the wind blows, the pollen flies and the rain falls. You might have heard the saying: “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.” In New Mexico, the lion sticks around well into April. The only thing you can reasonably predict about this season is that the pollen count will rise as surely as the sun.

We at the Daily Libel would like to begin by apologizing to our loyal readers who have put up with us for so long. Our sorry attempts at “revealing the truth” and sticking to “objective journalistic values” are blights on the face of this school and an insult to the intelligence of our readers.

The president of CNM announced Wednesday that the CNM Chronicle can resume operations immediately and that Chronicle staff members have their jobs back. If you’re unclear as to what I’m talking about, see the story on Page 1. I see this decision as a victory in the name of free speech and in the ongoing battle to keep student publications free of administrative oversight.

Interpersonal conflict: It’s inevitable in human relationships. People are individuals, each with their own opinions, likes and dislikes. Our individual quirks are what make life interesting, but sometimes quirks rub up against each other and produce sparks. Of course, sparks can ignite, and before you know it you’re in the midst of a virtual fire, flamethrowers on high, and somebody — probably everybody — is going to get hurt.

Editor’s note: This letter is in response to the article “8-3 vote keeps Chick-fil-A in the SUB,” published in the Daily Lobo Feb. 28. The article was about the SUB Board vote to keep Chick-fil-A in the SUB after an ASUNM Senate vote to recommend that they remove it, despite survey results that showed 85 percent of those surveyed were in favor of keeping the restaurant. The SUB Board performed a similar survey that reported 44 percent of respondents said Chick-fil-A’s principles are positive overall, while 41 percent said they are negative overall.
