Prohibition of any kind doesn’t work, and that is because prohibition is a regulation of morality. It isn’t finding justice, saving money or even keeping people from hurting themselves. Prohibition is the censorship of morality and any government body cannot be successful in that pursuit. The Temperance Movement was a religious movement to drive out the evils of America. At the time that evil was alcohol — people weren’t just opposed to alcohol but also to apples — which were almost exclusively grown to make alcohol. People started taking axes to apple trees all over the country and a campaign was waged against the “devil’s fruit.” Luckily the war against apples was never taken as far as the war against marijuana. I am going to cover the reasons given why marijuana is illegal.

I am not religious. At times, I’ve wished I was. I always hear people talking about religion in a way that elevates it as one of the more important things in life. But so far, God’s great glory has never fallen upon my face. And I wonder, why? So many people are devout about something. People have such reverent emotions and thoughts about the world, and I, for the most part, have been completely left out.

The advances in technology each day are absolutely incredible. We have come to the point where, if we think outside of the box, we can help developing countries take the first step in creating a healthier population.
What am I talking about?

Dear Dr. Peg,
How can someone know if they have “clinical bad breath” or halitosis?

Now I know a lot of you watch, and maybe even enjoy, the show “Family Guy,” but let me tell you — you are wrong.

I never planned on joining a sorority. When I was a senior in high school, my aunt would plague me with stories about the sorority she was in, how much it could change my life, blah, blah, blah.

I want to eat cows. I want to eat ribs, burgers, steaks and even bottom round roast (the butt). I would love to swim in the fluffy meat pillows of steak goodness, indulging my continuously growing gluttony. But, the Man keeps screwing my meat fantasy. I can’t, in any good conscience, eat beef.

I was walking on campus and saw a flier with a grizzly photo. The photo shows two hands bound at the wrists with measuring tape, poised over an empty plate. Above the stark image, the question, “Taking Extreme Measures Toward Food? Below, details of an event for Eating Disorders Awareness week.” As I gazed at the picture, memories rose in my mind, passing through my heart with a pang. Patients with eating disorders are not soon forgotten. I’m going to share two of them with you. Names and identifying details have, of course, been changed.

Like every other sane person, I would like to burn my eyes out with hair spray every time someone updates their status with a vague combination of nouns and adjectives that might as well say, “Ugh! Look at me feeling emotions right now! Look at my emotion!” but with a thousand more exclamation marks because their feelings are just that intense.

It’s here. You can’t run from it any longer. The only way to escape at this point would be to find a cave and hide out somewhere in the Sandias, but since those are occupied by chupacabras or a deposed Martin Chavez (I can’t decide which is worse), you have to deal with it at this point. I’m talking about “V” day.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina descended upon New Orleans causing one of the worst natural disasters in the United States’ history. The hurricane subjected much of the city to Category 1- and 2-strength winds. The hurricane also resulted in the failure of 53 breeches of the federally built levee system protecting the urban New Orleans.

The Oscars are back and as useless as ever, expanding the best picture category to 10 pictures even though all anybody cares about are the front-runners. There are only three things that can happen. “The Hurt Locker” wins, “Avatar” wins or neither win. Now you, a normal person living outside of the realm of Hollywood, might wonder why these things should matter to you. Lobos, the fate of the cinematic world rests in the grandiose production of haphazardly deciding which films are better than others. Each nomination maps out a different course for the film world and it’s only fair that you should know what might happen next.

News story not widely picked up in the U.S.: On Jan. 13 of this year, Mexican newspaper El Universal published a story titled “Europa acusa a OMS de ‘inflar’ epidemia” or “Europe accuses WHO of ‘inflating’ epidemic.” The gist of the story is that the European Union says the World Health Organization exaggerated the risks of swine flu. The story states “The Council of Europe denounced the possible pressure from pharmaceutical laboratories to exaggerate the situation and promote the application of vaccines and the sale of medicines.”

Is anything sustainable? Newton’s laws of physics tell us that an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force. Where in a tangible world is there ever not an interaction between two forces? Perpetual motion, much like happiness or the concept of sustainability, is not possible without constant interaction of outside forces in the real world. Once we see what is needed of the individual, if there really is such a thing, we can then step in and continue the motion. It just might have to take place without a combustion engine, but more with the sweat of our brow.

Many college students are deeply in debt today. An average debt recently quoted on the news mentioned a figure of $22,000, and the debts of students going into preprofessional graduate programs are far higher, amounting to six-digit sums. Usurious loan company interest rates have certainly been part of the problem.

So you got a new PC and it runs on a Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system. First off, congratulations! Out of the box, Windows 7 is Microsoft’s most secure operating system. However, there are a few things you can do to make your computer even better.
