Don’t think of this as a food review. I’m not a connoisseur of fine dining. I don’t have a sophisticated palate. I don’t need raspberry sorbet between courses, and you probably don’t either. Like you, I’m almost always hungry and I’m broke.

UNMPD officers say they may have found a motive in the stabbing of a UNM student Monday night on campus: The assailant allegedly slashed the woman’s throat for her cell phone.
A woman claiming to have been stabbed ran into a classroom in the Anthropology Building around 7:55 p.m., according to several witnesses who were in the classroom. Student Mike Johnson, who was visibly shaken, said a woman ran into his music appreciation class clutching her throat and asking for help.
The woman who was stabbed Monday night is in satisfactory condition at UNM Hospital, according to UNMPD spokesman Robert Haarhues. Haarhues confirmed that the victim is a student and employee at UNM, but he said the victim’s family does not want her name released to the media. The suspected stabber is still on the loose. Haarhues said UNMPD has had several witnesses come forward since the suspected stabbing that occurred Monday night, who say they’ve seen the man all over the city. “We’re not leaving any stone unturned,” he said. “We’re going to continue the investigation until we catch the guy.” He said UNMPD is solely in charge of the investigation as of right now. The police report will be ready today after 2 p.m. He also said she was enrolled in the music appreciation class that she ran into when claiming to have been stabbed. According to the class listing, 88 students were enrolled in the class. She burst into the classroom in the Anthropology Building around 7:55 p.m., according to several witnesses who were in the classroom. Student Mike Johnson, who was visibly shaken, said the woman ran into his music appreciation class clutching her throat and asking for help. “I set my stuff down and this poor lady walks in. She was holding her throat. She said, ‘somebody stabbed me, please help,’” Johnson said. “We all kind of looked at each other like, ‘she’s joking.’ She moved her hand. There was blood all over her shirt.” Blood was splattered on the sidewalk in front of the north entrance of the Anthropology Building, and the area was marked off by police tape before being cleaned off. Several students in the classroom corroborated Johnson’s story. Johnson said police responded within 30 seconds. He said the class responded immediately to the woman’s injury. He said several of his classmates called the police. “I took my shirt off, gave it to her,” he said. “She put it around her throat. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen. It shouldn’t happen at school, man.” Kyle Morgan, another student in the class, said he and several of his male classmates bolted out the door after the woman described her assailant as a tall black man with a black hooded sweatshirt and black hat. He said they ran around the entire building but couldn’t find the man in question. Johnson said he saw a man that matched the woman’s description standing outside the Anthropology Building just before Johnson sat down after retrieving books from his car. He said he and the man exchanged niceties, but he looked “kind of shady.” The UNM TextMe alert was sent out at 9:25 p.m. encouraging students to walk in groups, and another alert was sent out at 9:33 p.m. informing recipients that it was probable that no new information would be available Monday night.

Daily Lobo: Normally when I’ve heard the name Dominique, it’s a girl’s name. Dominique Maffucci: Yeah. It’s a French name and some people will say that it’s strictly a female name. Some people will say it’s also a male name. Obviously, I’m a male. It could go either way, but it means “of the Lord,” so I really take that to heart. DL: Why are you majoring in astrophysics? DM: I took astronomy last semester and I came from a history of loving astrology, so after studying a little bit about the real science, I fell in love with the real science. DL: Have you found a way to relate astrology to your life? DM: Astrology for me was the turning point in my spiritual growth as a person. I still try to use those aspects every day in my life just to find peace or just little wonders in life. DL: Is that your French horn? DM: Yeah, I’ve been playing the French horn for seven and a half years now. I play in the campus band. It only meets twice a week. It’s not really that big of a time commitment. DL: Are you in the marching band? DM: I was thinking about doing it again for next semester. I did marching band for four years in high school. DL: Where did you go to high school? DM: I went to high school at La Cueva and I came from a band that was 200 kids, and my senior year I was the president of band. This band is actually about 20 to 25 kids. It’s really small, but it’s nice to be in a college setting with a different style of teachers. A further education in music is always great. DL: Is there anything else interesting about you? DM: No, not really. I’m a pretty average guy.
