COLUMN: Castro in predictions

I began my new year like any red-blooded, logically driven American -- I read my horoscope. Strangely enough, my horoscope predicted that this year, Cuban leader Fidel Castro would die and close the final chapter on the ill-fated Cuban experiment. The astrologer went on to predict that his death would not only signal the reunification of Cuban families shattered by century-old political/economic debates, but that Cuba would open her arms to the United States and become an American playground.

Vortex play stellar

If I had to choose one word to sum up "Bosoms and Neglect," the new play at the Vortex, that word would be: brilliant. A stellar small cast plus an intimate setting made for an altogether entertaining and engaging night at the theater, which is usually one of my least favorite places to be.

Laugh along with Williams

Take a kid raised on "Weird" Al Yankovic records, mix in some contemporary lyrics and add a Howie Day-esque approach to doing live shows and you have Keller Williams. Not really a new musician on the scene, Williams has dropped six albums in a little more than six years and is now on tour for his latest, a record titled Dance, which is actually a remix of his previous album, Laugh.

Say "vagina." Now say it 128 times. That's how many times actresses Gretchen Lee Krich, Joyce Lee and Maureen McCormick, of "Brady Bunch" fame, said it in the performance of "The Vagina Monologues" at The Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe Tuesday night.

Martial arts comedy star triumphs in new sequel

Even after the severe beating administered to Jackie Chan for his role in "The Tuxedo," the scrappy master is back and ready to take on the entire English army. It's always good to see a classic Hollywood convention shattered. Case in point: sequels are supposed to suck.

Photographer captures ocean timelessly

In attempting to describe Farruquito's abilities as a flamenco dancer, one cannot help but use an extended metaphor comparing him to a Jedi Master.

She will be at UNM this Wednesday and Thursday at the Arts Technology Center, on Los Lomas and at Rodey Theatre in the UNM Center for the Arts.
