Tap Jam to shake Outpost floor

This weekend the Outpost Performance Space will play host to what has become an Albuquerque tradition -- the fifth-annual Tap Jam. Tap Jam coordinator and choreographer, Bill Evans, began making up dances at age three when his aunt took him to see a musical.

African dance school's focus

On Saturday, artist and UNM instructor Rujeko Dumbutshena opened the Blue Tribe School of Music and Dance, something she called the culmination of a life-long dream. She said she intends that the new school will be a haven for students of all types of expression that has roots in African movement.

On Saturday Nov. 2, the India Student Association's dance demonstration, featuring guest artist, Deepa Ponnappan focused on the fluid, southern style of Bharatanatyyam. Because of Ponnappan's great attention to detail, skill and beauty were embedded in every piece.

Art exhibit adds to CafÇ's cultural mix

Percie and Maria Yu lived in Spain for five years and when they came to New Mexico, they brought their love of Spanish culture with them. Since then, their restaurant CafÇ Broadway has been a favorite of those wishing to experience Spanish culture. Percie and Marie always wanted their restaurant to be a venue for great dance, music and art.

'Heels' a fine end to Vortex season

A quick-witted, well-acted and thoroughly funny play, "Spike Heels" touches on a lot of gender issues in a very real way - and not a toilet bowl in sight.
