Researchers test 'Great Firewall' of China

Internet censorship in China was believed to be caused by a firewall that blocks all information the government doesn't want its citizens to see. But a UNM assistant professor and a team of researchers disproved the assumption there is a "Great Firewall" of Internet censorship bordering China.

For student parents, there's a place where they can leave their children while they attend class. "UNM students don't have many options when it comes to child care," said Elena Aguirre, director of Children's Campus. "This is really about it."

Rey Gardu§o takes District 6

There were no tight races in Tuesday's City Council election. Rey Gardu§o took District 6 with almost 49 percent of the votes, defeating Kevin Wilson, Joanie Griffin and Blair Kaufman. District 6 encompasses the University area.

Editor, I read in the Daily Lobo on Friday about the sad, unequivocal support to the continued slavery and exploitation of the Cuban people. The belief that universal health care works for the Cuban people is founded on the lies of the Cuban government. Where do life expectancy and infant mortality statistics come from? The Cuban government itself.

UNM to sell $160M in bonds to fund construction projects

UNM wants $160 million for construction projects and plans to get that money from investors around the country. The Board of Regents' Finance and Facilities Committee approved parameters for the 2007-08 Institutional Bond Sale at its meeting Tuesday.

Richardson has clear plans for future nuclear budget

Editor, I personally don't see anything contradictory or wrong in Gov. Bill Richardson's statement as a presidential candidate about wanting to chop $57 billion off the nuclear weapons budget or as governor asking for some of Los Alamos budget cuts to be reinstated.

AP: Israel frees 57 Palestinians

BEITUNIYA CHECKPOINT, West Bank - Greeted by throngs of jubilant well-wishers, 57 Palestinian prisoners got off buses Monday and kissed West Bank ground after Israel freed them in a goodwill gesture ahead of a U.S.-sponsored peace conference. But the goodwill was tempered by Israeli plans to inaugurate a West Bank police headquarters in an area whose settlement has been blocked by the U.
