Two Lobos earned MWC conference player of the year awards for the second year in a row. Senior and forward Jennifer Williams and junior goalkeeper Kelli Cornell won offensive and defensive players of the year.
Tired swimmers do not produce great results. The dive team swept both events at Saturday’s swim meet against Wyoming, but the swim team failed to impress, winning just two of its 14 events in the 190-110 loss.
The game started sloppy, but it was an easy win in the end. The UNM basketball team had two turnovers in its first two possessions.
Ashlee Erickson is diving into success. Erickson, a senior on the UNM diving team, has already been named the MWC Diver of the Week twice this season.

TCU couldn’t survive a five-goal onslaught from the women’s soccer team, to the Lobos’ disappointment, said defender Zaneta Wyne. “The first half they came out really hard,” she said.
After a 42-0 defeat Saturday for its eighth consecutive loss, the Lobo football team still has nothing to be happy about, running back Crusoe Gongbay said. “Everybody’s mad,” he said.
The UNM volleyball team won its third straight game, which stands in contrast to its four-game losing streak earlier this month. Head coach Jeff Nelson said some of that improvement is thanks to senior Kelly Williamson.

It’s championship time again for the UNM cross country team. The Lobos kick off the first of three championship events with the Mountain West Championships this weekend in Fort Collins, Colo.

The UNM women’s basketball team has a conference championship in its sights. Last season, UNM finished with a 13-18 record and won just five games in conference on the way to its seventh place finish in the MWC.
The UNM men’s golf team is getting into the swing of things. The team, currently ranked No. 15 in the nation, won the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, Texas last weekend by eight strokes.
The Lobo Men’s Soccer team is the last undefeated squad in the nation. The No.5 team is the only team in the country yet to lose a game after No.1 University of Connecticut, lost 2-0 on Wednesday to West Virginia. The Lobos are currently 11-0-2, and go one the road to face Seattle University on Friday.
Mike Locksley’s 2-26 record didn’t earn him many fans off the field, but on the field his players supported him. Most of the players said they were sad to see him go. “It was sad at the moment, but we have to move on,” wide receiver Ty Kirk said.
Sara Halasz’s season is over before it even started. Halasz, a junior guard for the Lobo women’s basketball team, tore her right ACL last Friday in a team scrimmage at the Lobo Howl, putting her out for the entire season. She was chosen as a preseason All Mountain West Conference selection, and the injury is the same one she suffered last year that also benched her. “I am not going to let that bring me down,” Halasz said.
Ross Millington could go down as the greatest runner in the history of UNM. The 5-foot-7-inch, 125-pound Brit moved to Albuquerque right out of high school from Stockport, England, in January of 2009. Living alone, meeting new people and a being in a different part of the world surprised Millington. “I didn’t really know what to expect,” he said.
The “Handball Lobos” are ready to get a hand on their second year as an official club team. The handball team was formed last fall by four students from the handball class offered at UNM. Former research biology professor Carl White coaches the team.
