UNM tests new treatments

Staff Report Having been named as a nationwide site linked in a Clinical Trials Network designed to improve community-based treatment of drug abuse and dependence, UNM will take part in generating new treatment concepts that will eventually be implemented in the area of drug abuse.

Lobos to play for MWC title

by Kenn Rodriguez Daily Lobo The UNM women's soccer team continued its post-season run today by upsetting the second-seeded University of Utah 1-0 at the Mountain West Conference Championship tournament in Provo, Utah. "It was all heart and soul," Lobo head coach Kit Vela said.

LETTER: Brewster's bouncer wrongly rewarded

Editor, I was amazed to read that CASAA has rewarded Brewster's Pub for denying entrance to a pregnant woman. I truly hope that other establishments like Brewster's do not follow suit. Jerome Romero, CASAA's project director, is quoted in the Oct. 28 Lobo as saying ". we appreciate [Brewster's employees] putting themselves on the line for someone else's best interest.

Techniques to detect diseases focus of lecture

Sigma Xi, the scientific research society on campus sponsors a lecture series meant to bring professionals and researchers to UNM to discuss and demonstrate their work.

The UNM football team looks to get back to .500 mark tomorrow when it takes on the always talented and dangerous San Diego State University Aztecs. The Lobos have had a bumpy season filled with ups and downs. Two weeks ago UNM extended its bowl chances for another week with a thrilling overtime victory over Utah.

LETTER: Letter asking to vote pro-choice unsettling

Editor, Kimberly Lavender's pro-choice appeal in Monday's Daily Lobo was an unfortunate and startling reminder that there are some people who really would like to perpetuate the scourge of abortion in America. Like Ms. Lavender, they talk of a woman's right to choose, which is patently absurd inasmuch as the abortion license undermines and destroys the very basis of our human rights, namely our unique value and dignity as human persons.

Students donate marrow to save lives

by Cindy Lewis Daily Lobo UNM students lined up for the opportunity to save possible future lives Wednesday at the Student Health Center. The National Marrow Donor Program conducted a marrow donation registration drive to test volunteers' blood to determine if they qualify to be bone marrow or stem cell donors.

Human rights activist seeks out young people

The UNM women's soccer team rode a dominant defensive effort to defeat the Air Force Academy 1-0 in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Championship tournament in Provo, Utah, Wednesday. The Lobos (11-7-1) took control of the game early, clamping down on the Falcons while producing several goal opportunities for themselves.

LETTER: Tax dollars should go to fund future elections

Editor, Once again I find myself in disagreement with Craig Butler's editorial commentary, this time concerning public financing of elections. Mr. Butler states that public financing infringes on "the long-standing tradition that campaign contributions are a form of free speech" and concludes that the "switch to positive campaigning will have to come from somewhere else.
