This week’s New Mexico Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week are senior Miranda Sanchez of the UNM women’s basketball team and senior sprinter Larry Davis.
Davis broke the UNM record in the 200-meter run twice at this weekend’s Mountain West Conference indoor track and field championships. Davis’ time of 21.57 seconds in his preliminary run broke the record of 21.63 set by teammate Ian Stewart earlier this season. He then topped his own record in his final run with a time of 21.44.
Sanchez shot a combined 10-of-17 from the field this week, including five of nine 3-pointers in helping UNM to wins over Colorado State University Thursday and the University of Wyoming Saturday. She scored 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds against the Rams, and scored 11 points against Wyoming despite battling an illness.
