People need to be educated about rape

Editor,

It’s almost the beginning of another semester, and I’m not surprised to hear that rapes have already been committed.

It is sad and unfortunate that we attend a school where the headline “Rape on Campus” appears much too frequently.

I agree wholeheartedly that it is never the victim’s fault when rape occurs.

However, I do think it is important for people to realize that rapists are not usually people hiding out in the bushes.

They are the people you know and sometimes care for.

On Sept. 7, UNM’s RAINNdrops chapter is sponsoring on a fund-raising event to benefit the Rape Abuse Incest National Network, a toll-free and confidential hotline that connects victims of rape and abuse with local crisis centers in their areas, wherever they are in the United States.
