Editor,
As a journalism major with a concentration in public relations, I am not amused by the Dean of the Library Migneault’s cavalier reference to the practice of public relations.
He said that his plan to “weed out major portions of the collection due to lack of space was a public relations ploy” to secure funding for storage.
First, public relations is not a ploy.
Second, public relations is based on research and results that are carefully evaluated.
Third, it should strive for open, honest, two-way communication with every company or department it serves.

Fortunately for Dean Migneault, his beleaguered staff continues to practice personal public relations on a most excellent scale through their tireless efforts to help the students and faculty at UNM.
As for the Dean, I suggest he look into taking Public Relations 305 with Dr. Dirk Gibson.
There may still be room in this entry-level course for one more person in need of education.
