Swim team rallies past NMSU

Carson picks up three of seven Lobo wins Las Cruces

The UNM women's swimming and diving team won seven events to beat intra-state rival New Mexico State University 169.5 points to 125.5 Saturday in Las Cruces.

The Lobos ended the regular season in impressive fashion to improve their record to 5-4. UNM had a fine tune-up, preparing for the Mountain West Conference Championships next week in Colorado Springs, which is hosted by the Air Force Academy.

Senior Amanda Carson led the way for the Lobos by winning three events. She won the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 58.64 seconds, the 200-meter butterfly with a time of two minutes, eight seconds and the 500-meter freestyle at five minutes, 12.87 seconds.

Her teammates also helped out as sophomore Kira Carbonneau and freshman Becca Barras each won two events.

Carbonneau won the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.16 seconds, which is a team and season best, and was victorious in the 200-meter freestyle.

Barras dominated on the diving board, winning the one-meter dive and the three-meter dive.

Senior Quinn Michie and Anna Hoard joined the first place parade, each winning one event. Michie finished on top in the 200-meter individual medley and also earned two second place finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke.

Hoard won the 200-meter breaststroke and finished second in the 100-meter breaststroke.
