Sophomores Tjasa Suvak of the women's tennis team and pitcher James Vermilyea of the baseball team are the New Mexico Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week.
Suvak went 4-0 against the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas at El Paso this week, helping the team earn a split. She won a singles match 6-2, 6-1 and matched up with a teammate to earn a doubles victory 8-4 despite the team losing 4-3 to Oklahoma on Tuesday. Saturday, she routed her opponent in a 6-0, 6-1 singles match and also won her doubles match 8-6 in the team's 7-0 victory over the Miners.
Vermilyea helped the team earn its second victory of the season Friday when he hurled a stellar pitching performance in the team's 9-1 victory. He threw eight innings, allowing one run on six hits and struck out a career-high nine batters in the longest outing of his career.
