The Lobo swim team enjoyed the sweet taste of victory Thursday night.
UNM swept the conference dual meet, winning three head-to-head competitions. The biggest surprise of the weekend was the Lobos' upset of conference favorite, Brigham Young University. Even sweeter, the win was the first-ever victory over BYU.
The Lobos defeated BYU by 19 points, crushed Northern Arizona University by 45 points and waxed San Diego State University by 30 points.
It was the Lobos' best team performance of the season. Sophomore Nicole Overeem answered her call, winning two events, the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle. Senior Myra Will continued her domination of the 50-yard free with another win, while freshman Kelsey Leckovic won her best event, the 100-yard free.
While the swim team showed promise, the diving team went about its business and continuing its impressive undefeated season. Tracey Berghian and Becca Barras took home first place finishes in the three-meter and one-meter events respectively.

On Friday and Saturday, UNM entertained five other squads in the annual Lobo Invitational. After the first day of competition the Lobos were in second place, trailing SDSU by three points. BYU remained in the mix trailing UNM by eight and half points. Within striking distance of winning the meet, the Lobos entered day two with confidence. To no avail, the Lobos concluded with a disappointing third place finish, falling behind BYU and SDSU. New Mexico State University, Northern Colorado University and Metro State University rounded out the top-6.
Freshman sensation, Robyn Miller proved her worth winning the 400 individual medley and the 500 free in impressive fashion. Will took second in the 50 free, swimming her fastest time of the season. Leckovic raced to a first place finish in the 100 free.
Up next, the Lobos travel to Bloomington, Ind., to battle some quality teams in the Indiana Invitational.
The meet runs Nov. 22-24.
