Albuquerque is the perfect place for a concert. It's between so many major cities - Dallas, Phoenix, Denver - that bands make our town a stop on their tours.

Apparently the bands usually get a good crowd and we love those independents. But for every independent out there, Beck will drive through Albuquerque on his way up to Denver and take The Flaming Lips with him.

Not The Epoxies. On Tuesday, The Epoxies are coming to town.

The Epoxies have a New Wave, '80s, heavy-on-the-synthesizer sound. As keyboardist F.M. Static put it in an interview with the Daily Lobo, "Every time we try to sound like a band we end up sounding like ourselves."

The Epoxies have released its first official self-titled CD this year, which is 11 songs of fun, upbeat punk which in no way sounds manufactured. The cover sports band members in stylistic black and white striped outfits and a sick obsession with a post-apocalyptic world in which they fantasize time traveling back to the age of dinosaurs. "We're just trying to have fun with what we do," Static said. "[We're] upbeat and original."

That's one way to look at it.

The album is a lot like what would happen if Devo had a girl lead singer, Roxy Epoxy, and kept using the same beats over and over again. It's a fun album to listen to, but it's not exactly genius.

What this formula does provide though, is ample material to make for an interesting show. Basically, the goal of the Epoxies on tour is to provide its audience with an amazing performance.

"We put a tremendous amount of energy into our live show," Static said. "We dress up, use lights and smoke, a cool entrance and we do everything we can to have a show. We're not trying to be regular guys. I mean, you can see regular guys anywhere for free."

Basically it boils down to this. The CD, while not the greatest thing out there, is a fun listen. At the live show the band makes sure that you get your money's worth, and it's a very good possibility that The Epoxies could be everything you're looking for.

For those of you who don't have or care about finals the next day, you should go check it out.

For everyone who complains about the lack of things to do in this town, fear not, take a chance, and go support independent music.
