UNM head football coach Rocky Long announced Wednesday the signing of 25 athletes to the 2003 team -- 21 of whom will be freshmen this fall.
The remaining four transfer students are sophomore cornerback Herb Cash from Carson, Calif., junior defensive end Bryan Easterly of Ventura, Calif., junior cornerback Brandon Payne from Dayton, Texas, and offensive lineman Nate Weber of Los Angeles.
Among the 21 high school seniors, two are from Albuquerque high schools -- George Carter linebacker/fullback is from Albuquerque High and offensive lineman Anthony Kilby is from Manzano High School.
UNM signed the most new players from Texas high schools with 10 hailing from the Lonestar State. They include Jordan Adams, tight end from Arlington; Allex Alvarado, also a tight end from San Antonio; Tye Butler, a quarterback from Big Spring; wide receiver Major Mosley, Houston; running back Darius Ferguson from Paris; Josh Lancaster, a linebacker is from Grapevine; running back Martelius Epps of Omaha, another tailback Juamar Hall from San Angelo. Last from Texas are wide receiver Jonathan Harrell of Everman, and Matt Peebles, a running back from Bridge City.
Following Texas is California, with seven recruits. Niam Adams, LB, Los Angeles; defensive lineman Jeff Benjamin of Corona; running back Fred Colbert from Baldwin Park; linebacker Cody Kase of Valencia; and running back Marcus Smith from San Diego. Also from the Sunshine State is Michael Tuohy, a defensive lineman from Moreno Valley, and linebacker Jason Turner of La Crescenta.

The two remaining recruits are both from Illinois -- offensive lineman Bart Miller from Elk Groove Village and another lineman Vince Natali of Park Ridge.
Soccer
Men's soccer head coach Jeremy Fishbein also announced three new members to its team.
Two of the recruits are from Albuquerque, Robbie CdeBaca, midfield and Mike Graczyk, goalkeeper. The third new player, Jeff Krause, a midfielder, is a junior transfer student from the University of Pittsburgh.
