Staff Report
The Lobo women's basketball team has fallen to a record of 13-6, losing to the BYU Cougars last night in Provo, Utah.
The Lobos jumped out to a 10-point lead early in the first half. UNM settled into a comfortable rhythm right away, making eight of their first 14 shots. UNM center Jordan Adams hit a jumper to put the Lobos up 18-8, with 9:55 left in the period.
That basket would be the last points UNM would see in the period, remaining scoreless for the next 10 minutes and missing 13 consecutive shot attempts.
After the Lobos explosive start, the Cougars came back, scoring 18 unanswered points, going into intermission with an eight point advantage over the Lobos.
Starting the second half, the Lobos came out of their poor-shooting slump looking hopeful. UNM made five of their first six shot attempts, closing BYU's lead to one, 30-29. However, the Cougars took off on another unstoppable run for the Lobos, scoring 10 straight points.

BYU continued to build their lead up to 12 with 8:41 to play, but the Lobos wouldn't give up.
Lauren McLeod hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to only four. The Lobos had four minutes to regain the lead, but lost the ball on their next three possessions. The Cougars took full advantage of the UNM turnovers and finally beat the Lobos by 11, with a final score of 57-46.
Adams led all scorers on the night with 16 points, pulling down 9 rebounds.
"They played really hard," Head Coach Don Flanagan said of the Cougars. "There was no comparison with the effort tonight."
Flanagan expressed his frustration after UNM lost its third-straight game on the road.
"The shots we have at home, we don't have on the road. The effort we have at home, we don't have on the road," he said.
Flanagan and the Lobos hope to redeem themselves this weekend, but face an even greater challenge as they head to Salt Lake City to take on top-ranked Utah, Saturday.
