The UNM softball team took a heartbreaking 4-3 loss at the hands of top-seeded San Diego State University in the second round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament Friday.
Danielle Touhey's RBI single in the bottom of the 14th inning lifted the Aztecs to victory over fifth-seeded UNM.
SDSU took the lead in the first inning when Erin Mahoney scored on a single by Jacque Vaca for a 1-0 lead.
The Lobos pulled ahead in the sixth when freshman Stephanie Kennedy blasted a three-run homer over the center field wall for a 3-1 UNM advantage.
The Aztecs rallied with runs in the sixth and seventh innings to knot the game 3-3.

In the 14th, Vaca led off with an infield single and advanced to second on Kelcy Murphy's ground out. Vaca then moved to third on Bridgette Caron's sacrifice bunt setting the scene for Touhey's game-winner.
With the loss, the Lobos dropped to 25-36-1 on the year.
Amy Dumas started on the mound for UNM, going seven innings before being replaced by Iraina Ogas. Ogas pitched the last seven innings in relief.
The 14 innings were the longest in MWC Softball Championship history.
The Lobos were eliminated by UNLV 3-1 in their next game.
Center fielder Kelly Glass, Iraina Ogas and freshman shortstop Ashley VanBoxmeer were all named to the 2003 All-Mountain West Conference team.
