Men's Soccer
The men's soccer team traveled to Las Vegas, Nev. this weekend to take part in the UNLV/Fila Classic.
Tournament play started on Friday, at 5 p.m. with the Lobos playing against the Gonzaga Bulldogs at the Peter Johann Memorial Field. The battle ended with a 1-1 tie. Senior midfielder Stian Eriksen scored UNM's only goal during the 52nd minute of play. Junior Patrick Grange assisted on the goal.
Gonzaga answered back 24 minutes later, when Arni Pjeturrson hooked up with Kari Arnason for the Bulldog's game-tying score.
The draw puts UNM at .500 with a record of 3-3-3.
Women's Soccer

The women's soccer team went to Tempe, Ariz. on Saturday to play Arizona State. The Sun Devils who are ranked 17th in the nation, came out victorious with a 2-0 victory.
Brittany Cooper, an Albuquerque native, scored the Sun Devils first goal in the first half, during the 11th minute of play. Elizabeth Bogus scored ASU's other goal 21 seconds into the second half. Patrice Feulner had the assists for both of the goals.
With the loss, the Lobos are now 1-5-2.
Cross Country
The cross country team traveled to Cary, N.C., to compete in the Great American Cross Country Festival at the SAS Soccer Park on Friday.
Leading the way for the Lobos were Sean Flaherty and Timmie Murphy.
Flaherty ran the 8,000-meter course in 27:28, finishing 75th. Flaherty's time helped the men finish in 17th place.
In the women's race, Murphy finished 56th, with a time of 19:27 in the 5,000 meter run. Murphy's new personal best helped the women finish in 15th place.
Volleyball
The Lobo volleyball team started conference play on Friday with a loss in Colorado Springs, Colo., to the Air Force Falcons. The Falcons swept the Lobos in three games 32-30, 30-22, 30-28.
The Falcons beat the Lobos for the second time in the last 12 meetings.
With the loss, the Lobos are now 3-11 and 0-1 in Mountain West Conference play. UNM will play BYU on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Utah on Friday at 7 p.m. Both games will be at Johnson Arena.
Women's Tennis
The women's tennis team went to Las Vegas, Nev. to take part in the UNLV Fall Invite this weekend.
The Lobos swept the third singles flight with victories by Tjasa Suvak and Nora Quintal. Suvak defeated USD's Jenny Brown in three sets 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, while Quintal won by way of default over NAU's Ashley Dille.
In doubles competition, UNM's Iva Gersic and Maria Ruiz-Fabrega put away NAU's Klokinis and Kmiec 8-6. The victory put them in a position to win the final for Flight three. During the doubles final for Flight three on Saturday, Gersic and Ruiz-Fabrega came out with a victory over USD's Lauren Perl and Lina Baensch 8-3.
On Sunday, three Lobos played in the singles finals. Maja Kovacek won the Flight two singles finals 6-2, 6-2 over UNLV's Anne Claire Ortiz-Luis. In the Flight one finals, Sandy Lukowski was defeated USD's Perl 6-2, 6-1. UNM's Ruiz-Fabrega lost in the Flight four finals 6-4, 6-4 to Lauren Simmons of OSU.
Lobo Notes
National Anthem auditions for the 2003-04 UNM men's and women's basketball season will be held on Thursday, October 16 at 6 p.m. at The Pit. Each person will receive two minutes to sing. For more info, please call Liz Tamol at 925-5014.
