Darediablo is rock and nothing else.
The band out of New York is not the kind of rock you have to qualify with a descriptive adjective like "emo," "indie" or "sedimentary."
No, Darediablo's latest release, Feeding Frenzy, just strait-up rocks. That doesn't mean the songs are derivative or boring. This is one of few groups left to find new innovation in rock without having to combine it with something else. Darediablo will perform tonight at Burt's Tiki Lounge.
Matt Halford's old-school keyboard stylings, usually played with an organ effect, are meant to fill the space where a singer would normally be. Guitarist Jake Garcia adds heavy low-end riffs and periodic solos. Innovations in the rhythm section really keep things fresh, pushing Darediablo's sound past a clichÇd existence in average-ville and onto unmarked territory.
Still, listening to Feeding Frenzy for a while might leave some listeners humming to themselves, wishing for a human voice in the mix. Others might get the urge and jump up and screech out their own lyrics. As a be-your-own rock star kit, this album is great.
Beyond that, Feeding Frenzy may have to be delegated to the dreaded realm of study music.
