Softball
The Lobos rallied with one out and three runners on base in the bottom of the seventh to come back and defeat Syracuse 4-3, Sunday in Tempe, Ariz. Freshman Amy Ray hit the game-winning run.
UNM's Robyn Hutson got a hit past third base and into center field in the second, which set the Lobos up for scores from freshman Ryanne Hodgins and senior Sabrina Sandberg. But the Orangemen crossed home plate in the fourth inning and twice more in the sixth, to pull ahead by one.
Syracuse would not score again, but UNM got two more runs in when Stephanie Kennedy sent Sandberg home with a single and Sandberg sent in Ray to end the game.
The Lobos went 3-2 at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament, losing to Texas A&M and Nevada and beating Western Michigan and No. 20 Arizona State to improve to 5-5 for the season.
Women's Tennis
The Lobos swept the doubles rounds and won four of six singles matches to beat intrastate rival NMSU 5-2 Saturday in Las Cruces.
Iva Gersic, one of UNM's top players, didn't participate in the singles rounds due to a sprained ankle. In her place sophomore Maja Kovacek played in the Lobos' No. 1 spot and defeated NMSU's Lejla Porobic in two sets 6-2, 6-3. Kovacek also was on the No. 1 doubles team, along with senior Sandy Lukowski.
