The UNM women's swimming and diving team finished third in the 2004 Lobo Fall Classic at the Seidler Natatorium on Saturday.

The Lobo women ended up with 818 points, winner BYU took 1,122 points and second-place Northern Arizona had 961. Taking the final two spots were San Diego State with 525 points and New Mexico State with 289.

Senior diver Becca Barras performed well at all of her competitions in the meet, sweeping all of her events on the one-meter and three-meter board and remaining undefeated for the season.

"She has a lot of talent, but she's barely beginning to use that talent," head diving coach Abel Sanchez said.

Barras' undefeated streak is at four straight, with eight consecutive wins in both the one- and three-meter board competitions.

Junior Robyn Miller saw a lot of action and spent a lot of her time in the pool ahead of the rest of the swimmers. In the 400-yard individual medley, she finished with a time of 4:32, the fastest time of the meet, en route to winning the event. In the 200-yard freestyle, Miller notched another first-place finish with a time of 1:54.39.

In the 100-yard freestyle, UNM teammates Tori Clarridge and Kelsey Leckovic had good performances, finishing first and second in the event.

Clarridge had one of her fastest times of the season, winning the freestyle in 53.02 and Leckovic clocked a time of 53.26 for second-place. Clarridge picked up another victory for the Lobos in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.69.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Aimee Dunavant finished in second place among 32 competitors with a final time of 59.56. In the 200-yard butterfly, the senior contributed key points to the team as well, finishing in 2:11 to grab third place overall. Dunavant, a team captain, said she thought highly of all her teammates' performances throughout the meet.

"The whole team pulled together," she said. "We dug deep."

In relay action, the Lobos delivered two first-place finishes. UNM's relay team had a big win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing with a time of 3:39.00.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, UNM edged BYU to grab the win with a time of 1:37.76. BYU was less than half a second behind, coming in at 1:38.01. The 800-yard freestyle relay saw another close finish between UNM and BYU, this time with BYU grabbing the win in 7:49.28 and the Lobos right behind at 7:49.91 for the silver.

The UNM relay team also grabbed third place in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing with a time of 1:51.71.

"We had some really good swimming," head coach Bill Spahn said. "Our girls competed well all weekend long."
