Six years ago, Joe Pesce got it in his head to develop a festival that would showcase theatrical works that don't normally find their way to New Mexico.
Pesce, the Tricklock Company's artistic director, helped create the Revolutions International Theatre Festival, which brings theater from around the world to Albuquerque.
Now in its fifth year, the Revolutions manifesto is still being followed.
"The festival is very much about increasing cultural understanding through performance and through the cultural exchange with artists from around the globe," Pesce said.
Along with Vincent Mansoe from Soweto, South Africa, theater companies from Dublin, New York City, Chicago, Los Angles and New Mexico will perform.
Mayor Martin Chavez and the City of Albuquerque are cosponsoring the Revolutions Festival for the first year since its creation. The festival also receives support from local businesses and organizations and UNM's Department of Theatre and Dance.

UNM's Rodey Theatre and Theatre X performance spaces will both be in use during the festival. As a trade for their support, actors from the international companies will offer master's classes to UNM theater and dance majors.
"Education is an important part of the festival," Pesce said. "We (Tricklock Company members) all graduated from the UNM Department of Theatre and Dance."
