Letter: Believers of Bush's lies are the real sheep

Editor,

Wow, a new semester and already I am called upon to defend the basic sanity of the country.

I'm going to go slowly to prevent the rage the column "All that was left were sheep" in Thursday's Daily Lobo inspired in me from making me scream to making me throw things.

First, it is important and very bad that President Bush lied about the reasons for going to war. Next, it is also important that he started a war going after someone who had no connection to Sept. 11, 2001, or terrorism while using these things to scare the poor sheep.

I don't care if he was a drunk. I do get mad, however, when he says he knows how families feel when they lose a child in Iraq. He doesn't.

As for all the Clinton-bashing, alas, my hero and mentor was not perfect. He made mistakes, but any fan of the Bush management style has to love a guy who makes lots of mistakes. It should be said, however, that he did not molest anyone. He received oral sex from a very willing and strange woman - or maybe a few - and then he lied about it. This is not molesting anyone - it's different, and although you seem not to care, such differences are important.

I disagree with Andrew Price's statements about the economic boom during the 1990s being the result of the policies of Presidents Reagan and Bush. But what is definitely a result of their leadership are the two problems confronting us today: They gave people like bin Laden lots of money and guns to fight Russia.

Surprise, surprise ---- these crazy people are still around and they still have the guns we gave them. The proliferation of nuclear and chemical weapons is also the result of the massive arms buildup during the 1980s.

Bush himself is a failure - his administration has started two wars, spent more money than Reagan and pushed America further into debt while giving money away to corporations and China.

If you want to talk about sheep, what about all the people who still believe that Saddam was behind the Sept. 11 attacks? Or believe that their little town in Alabama is going to be attacked by terrorists unless we send more young men to die in Iraq? I don't think that supporters of the "dumb is OK" school of government should bring to attention the general dumbness of the American voter.

As a side note, I think Price has a serious problem with sheep.
